Are you looking for places to go ice skating in Charleston, SC? It might be sunny most of the year, but during the holiday season, you can still find places to ice skate and have fun with your family and friends! Here are three great spots kids love — and two of them are extra special holiday events!
Where to Go Ice Skating in Charleston, SC
Ice Skating by the Shore – Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina Lookout Pavilion
Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina – 20 Patriots Point Rd, Mount Pleasant, SC
Head over to Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina near Patriot Point where they have set up a synthetic ice skating rink right by the harbor — perfect for holiday fun.
What Makes It Fun?
- You get to skate overlooking the Charleston Harbor and even see the big USS Yorktown!
- Warm up by fire pits, sip hot cocoa, and enjoy games and crafts for kids.
This rink is a holiday favorite and feels cozy with lights and music while you skate by the water. It’s a great place for kids who want a festive skating day. Tickets are $18 per person and include your rental and an hour of skating. Plus, you also get access to the craft village, special events, and treats with your rental. You can also rent fire pits with seating or rent a Gondola that comes with a s’more kit. Prices start at $40 an hour and go up to $65.
Carolina Ice Palace — North Charleston’s Real Ice Rink
Carolina Ice Palace – 7665 Northwoods Blvd, North Charleston, SC
If you want real ice skating anytime of year, check out Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston! My family also loves to go to Carolina Ice Palace to cool down during the summer months. Sometimes you can also catch the Stingrays practicing on the ice. My son loves watching the players work hard on the ice! Holiday and weekend rates are $12 per person and $5 for your skate rental. If you need a skate assister, that is $3. If you’d rather go during the week, the rates are $10 per person and $4 for your skates.
Here’s why kids and families love it: Real ice — not synthetic!
- Perfect for learning to skate or practicing your spins
- They offer public skate times, rentals, and even special shows sometimes
- This is the place to go if you want to skate even after the holiday rinks close — like a year-round ice skating adventure!
Skate the Stadium — Daniel Island Holiday Ice Rink (CLOSED 2025)
Credit One Stadium – 161 Seven Farms Drive, Charleston, SC
One of the coolest holiday traditions on Daniel Island is Skate the Stadium! During December, Credit One Stadium turns into a big outdoor ice skating rink where kids (and grown-ups!) can glide and twirl in the festive air.
You rent skates right there, warm up with hot cocoa, and check out fire pits and holiday decorations all around! Holiday music, special glow nights, and visits with Santa make it extra magical. This is a special holiday-only ice skating event, so it’s extra fun and feels like a winter wonderland — even here in the Lowcountry! My son, husband, and I went and had a blast!
Check their social media because every night is a fun theme. When we went it was a tacky Christmas sweater contest, and we won free hot chocolate for the month. While this “ice” is synthetic, we still had fun with all the colorful Christmas lights projected on the ice while skating around. Tip buy tickets early as this event sales out pretty quickly! Tickets are $10 per person which does include your skate rental and 45 minutes of skate time.
While not happening in 2025, we are hoping that Credit One Stadium will bring back this family favorite next year.
Our tips to keep Ice Skating Fun
- Dress warm! Even though Charleston isn’t super cold, ice rinks are chilly — hats, gloves, and cozy jackets help keep you comfy.
- Hot cocoa and snacks are usually available at the holiday rinks and treat time after skating is the best!
- Bring your family and friends — skating is more fun when you laugh and glide together!
Whether you want a magical holiday rink on Daniel Island, a waterfront skating experience near Patriot Point, or real ice year-round, Charleston has fun skating places for kids of all ages!
