Flowertown Charm Farm in Summerville: A Sweet Animal Experience for Families

Posted on |

In the heart of Summerville—a town lovingly nicknamed “Flowertown in the Pines”—there’s a place where time slows down, azaleas bloom in soft pink clouds, and children laugh as goats wander freely at their feet. This is the story of Flowertown Charm Farm, a unique family-friendly farm experience in Summerville, SC that feels like stepping into a storybook.

Thanks to Flowertown Charm for providing admission so we could share this special spot with our readers! All opinions are those of the author and her family!

A Storybook Farm in the Middle of Town: Flowertown Charm

The farmhouse itself dates back to the 1870s, with a wide front porch that seems made for rocking chairs, lemonade, and watching the world drift by. Flowertown Charm is what’s known as an “urban farm”—a rare piece of preserved farmland surrounded by modern development.

Behind the house, though, the modern world disappears. Chickens cluck, goats hop playfully, and children step into a space where animals outnumber people and fences are few.

This isn’t a large commercial farm. It’s intimate by design—small groups, personal experiences, and the feeling that you’ve been invited into someone’s home rather than a tourist attraction.

Our Visit: Flowertown Charm Farm Review

The Flowertown Charm Farm experience is such a sweet one. My family had such a wonderful time. Every time I turned around, I saw my son cuddling a baby goat. His smile was so big while petting all the animals, and he has not stopped asking for a bunny since we left.

My toddler daughter was completely enamored with the cuddly fluff of a farm dog named Grizzly. One of the highlights of the day was watching a baby goat ride on the back of a tortoise!

What Will You See? Meet the “Farmily”

Children visiting the farm quickly learn that every animal has a name and a personality.

Here are just a few friendly faces kids can meet and pet:

  • Mini Scottish Highland cows like Mimosa and Malibu
  • Nigerian dwarf goats like Wisteria (and often baby goats in spring and fall)
  • A gentle mini donkey who loves to be pet
  • Fluffy bunnies perfect for snuggling
  • Barn cats lounging on the porch
  • Big, friendly farm dogs
  • Chickens wandering freely
  • A giant tortoise that delights younger visitors
  • Bees coming soon that can be observed

Most animals here are not behind fences—they’ll happily sit in your lap if you let them.

For kids, that means real connection: feeding goats, brushing fur, or simply sitting quietly while a bunny settles in beside them.

The Heart Behind Flowertown Charm Farm

What makes this place truly special is the people behind it.

Owners of Flowertown Charm

The farm is owned and run entirely by husband-and-wife team Chris and Jenna Pelayo.

  • Chris focuses on animal care and often leads farm experiences
  • Jenna manages the farmhouse stays, events, and day-to-day operations

Together, they’ve built something deeply personal—a lifestyle centered on animals, creativity, and community. There are no large staff teams or crowded tour buses—just two owners sharing their home and their passion.

When we got to the farm, Jenna immediately greeted us and led us into the gated area with chickens, bunnies, and newborn baby goats. Chris showed the kids a baby bunny they had just gotten the week prior, which quickly became their favorite animal.
