The Beginner’s Guide to Topgolf for Families: Charleston, SC

Posted on | No Comments

Everything kids and families need to know before their first visit — from hours and deals to food, mini golf, and insider tips for saving money.

If you have never been to Topgolf, get ready for one of the most exciting outings in all of Charleston. Forget everything you think you know about golf — this is not a quiet afternoon on a slow-moving green. Topgolf is loud, fast, and incredibly fun for kids of all ages, whether they have never swung a club in their life or dream of playing on the PGA Tour someday. Topgolf is one of my 7-year-old’s most requested family outings!

Topgolf for Families

Play at Topgolf Charleston with the Kids

The concept is simple. You rent a private covered bay — a bit like a fancy booth — and take turns hitting high-tech golf balls at giant circular targets in the outfield. Every ball is tracked, so the moment it lands, a screen in your bay lights up with your score automatically. The farther and more accurately you hit, the more points you earn. It is part driving range, part arcade game, and 100 percent a great time.

Kids at Topgolf

We love the Sonic game — it is great for little kids and not too difficult for my 3-year-old to play, too. Before my daughter was mobile, we would bring our portable bouncer (total lifesaver), and she would just watch happily. Topgolf is very family-friendly, even for babies!

On top of the gameplay, Topgolf Charleston has a full restaurant menu served right to your bay, a miniature golf course, giant TVs, and a lively atmosphere that makes it one of the most popular family destinations in the Lowcountry. Rain or shine, summer or winter, it is always open and always a good time.

Discounts and Best Times to Play

Here is something that surprises most first-time visitors: you do not pay per person at Topgolf — you rent a bay by the hour. Up to six people can share a bay, which makes it much more affordable when you split the cost.

Best overall deal: Half-Price Tuesdays
This is still one of the best ways to save. If you can swing a Tuesday visit, it is worth it.

Weekday early play deal: Before 4 pm, Monday through Thursday
This is one of our favorite times to go. It is quieter, less crowded, and typically more budget-friendly.

Weekend value: Sunday Funday
A flat rate makes Sundays a great option if you need a predictable weekend plan. $40 per bay per hour.

Membership: Lifetime Player Membership ($6 one-time fee)
For a one-time fee of just six dollars, every player can create a profile that unlocks complimentary weekday gameplay before 5 pm and 20 percent off food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Biggest money-saving tip for a family at Topgolf

Come on a Tuesday morning with a full group. Split the bay six ways, and the cost per person can be surprisingly low, just a few dollars. We also keep things simple by bringing water bottles and sticking to kids’ meals to keep the total down.

Food and Drinks

One of the best parts of Topgolf is that you never have to leave your bay. A server comes right to you, takes your order, and brings everything while you keep playing.

The menu is big and has something for everyone.

Kids’ menu

  • Chicken fingers with fries or tots
  • Grilled cheese sandwich
  • Cheeseburger with fries or tots
  • Meals include a drink

Family favorites

My kids always ask for the pretzel bites with queso, and we usually add the mini sliders, too.

  • Breakfast burrito (mornings)
  • Chicken biscuit sandwich with honey
  • Smokehouse burger
  • Chopped chicken salad

Drinks

  • Sodas and flavored lemonades
  • Cherry limeade
  • Juice drinks for younger kids
  • Water and iced tea

Sweet treats

The cinnamon-sugar injectable donut holes are a must. They come with different fillings, and honestly, they are one of the most fun desserts to share while you are playing.

Mini Golf at Topgolf Charleston

Topgolf Charleston also has an outdoor miniature golf course, which is a great add-on — especially for younger kids or anyone who wants a break from the bays.

  • Best for younger kids or mixed-age groups
  • Available during regular hours
  • Last round starts about one hour before closing
  • Weather dependent since it is outdoors

On a nice day, this can easily become a favorite part of the visit.

Tips for a Great Visit

Make a reservation

Walk-ins are welcome, but weekends and evenings fill up fast. Reserving ahead saves time and stress.

Go on a weekday if you can

Weekday mornings and afternoons are our favorite — fewer crowds and better value.

Clubs are included

No need to bring anything. Clubs are provided, including smaller ones for kids.

Sign up before you go

Create your membership ahead of time so you are ready to play right away.

Try the Sonic game

This is one of the best options for younger kids and beginners.

Do not worry about the weather

The bays are covered and climate-controlled, so your plans usually do not get ruined by rain or temperature.
