Halloween Town SC: Conway SC

How Conway Becomes “Halloween Town, SC”

City of Halloween
  • Each October, the city temporarily rebrands itself as “City of Halloween, SC.”
  • Downtown streets get a ghostly makeover: thousands of pumpkins hang from trees, themed decorations pop up in alleys and parks, and spooky lighting turns familiar places into haunted fun zones.
  • The event is more than just a weekend — the Conway Halloween Celebration lasts from October 1 through 31.

So think of the whole town as your Halloween playground all month long. We walked every storefront and loved how every store got into the Halloween spirit with such fun decorations and themed windows.

Sights & Installations You Can Walk Around and Explore

Even when there’s not a big event, Halloween Town Conway, SC is full of festive fun:

  • Pumpkins in the Trees: Streets in downtown Conway are lined with oak trees and decorated with about 3,000 pumpkins suspended overhead, glowing at night. This was my absolute favorite part. Every tree was beautiful!
  • Haunted Alleys / Installations: Alleyways and side streets get creative themes like the “Tunnel of Bones,” “Ghost Alley,” and more.
    • My daughter loved the Yellow Brick Road that led her to Oz, complete with flying monkeys and a house on the Wicked Witch.
    • My son’s favorite? Skeleton Alley, where talking skeletons shared upcoming events and the skeleton metal band rocked out.
    • Witch Alley, with a green bubbling fountain and floating hats, was a personal favorite.
  • Riverwalk: The Waccamaw Riverwalk often features spooky lighting and is included in several events and walking tours.
  • Nighttime Ambience: The entire downtown area transforms at dusk with glowing pumpkins, shadows, lights, and just the right amount of spooky charm.

Bring a flashlight and comfy shoes — some sidewalks, alleys, and grassy patches may be uneven.
